O.K. Since the Oracle Hotline hasn't been much help, I thought I'd contact the real Oracle experts.

I'm attempting to get remote operating system authentication working (so far without success). Here's the setup...

I'm running Oracle kernel V 7.0.13.0.0 under VMS 5.5-2. I'm using SQL*Net 1.2 with the DECnet protocol. I've set the REMOTE_OS_AUTHENT=TRUE. When connected directly, OS authentication works just fine, but not via SQL*net. Remote connects work just fine too, as long as I supply an Oracle username and password.

Questions:

  1. Can SQL*net V1.2 with DECNet support remote operating system authentication (and if so, how?)

or

2. Can SQL*net V1.2 with TCP/IP support remote OS authentication?

    (if so, please provide examples).

3. How will things change under SQL*Net V2.0?

                        Thanks in advance,
