Oracle Pro*C apps under MS-Windows: large memory model only?

We are developing a large-ish MS-Windows 3.1 application that accesses an Oracle v6 database using Pro*C (version 1.3) and SQL*Net (version 1.1). We are using BC++ 3.1.

In the Oracle "Using Pro*C for MS-DOS" manual, on p 3-18 at the start of the section entitled "Programming Windows Applications", it is stated that applications should be built using a large model run-time library, and that "medium model libraries are not supported for Oracle database applications".

Unless I'm missing something, this would seem to preclude building medium model Oracle applications for MS-Windows. (Right?) Microsoft and other authorities seem to recommend using the medium model for all Windows applications, since in the large model data segments are not moveable.

My questions are:

  • Has anyone had any trouble building large model Oracle applications for Windows?
  • Is there *any* way at all to build a medium model application?

Any and all help appreciated.
