Control files on Ultrix

I am having a small problem with control files.

I have sent a database (created with Oracle v. 6.0.27) to a customer who has v. 6.0.34 (DEC Ultrix 4.2a). I sent what I believed were all the required files, that is, the contents of the database directory, and instructions on how to get the db up and running. I had previously done the same thing with the same customer without any problem, so I wasn't expecting trouble. However, when the customer tries to start the database, he gets an error "ORA-00205: error in identifying control file". As far as I can tell, ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID are properly set, and everything seems to be in order, except the database won't start. What am I missing?
