Hi, you have basically two release, the group of products is used to be called Oracle Developer/2000

You have the forms 6i (las client/server release buy is being update), you must update to last patchset like 18 to get it compatible using 10g.

and oracle forms 10, which isn't client/server, and you must install oracle applications too.

There is one book on amazon, but there is not too much books, because all is in developer documentation (at otn.oracle.com)

If you are new, be prepared to a new logic in programming, you can't navigate in a when-validate trigger, etc. etc.

You don't need to install in every computer, there is trick to get a zero installation soultion on windows 2000pro, xp.
