nls_lang has been set, but where?
- in the database
- in the database environment
- client side

What text box do you mean? Is that the screen your font converter uses? If so, what code page is you (assuming MS Win) client? Check using chcp, without arguments.
You could change that to, say cp 1252, using 'cpcp 1252' (without the quotes)
