newbee. Best way for role-based authentication

I am searching for a sensible way to create role-based authentication for my website. For example, if x signs in then he sees a subset of buttons or a subset of data, and if y signs in then she sees another subset.
My idea is to create indepedent DataPages in the Struts Page Flow Diagram. And then depending on which user is logged in, the Diagram will forward to the relevant DataPages.
I will have max 5 roles but it sure complicates things having 5 "Customer Search" DataPages.
Could anyone guide me ??
Examples are also welcomed.
