I seem to recall that Hotsos (www.hotsos.com) had a "Trace file Daemon", that ran on the db server. They also had (still have) the "Sparky" data collector, that would run on the desktop, talk to the tracefile daemon, and grab trace files from the server.

The product may have changed name to "Hotsos Profiler", and they may have started charging a small fee for it by now. It is probably still a great value for money, tho.
