It may not have to be Oracle but it may well have to be something of similar complexity due to the number of users, number of transactions, the size of the data, the throughput, security, or any number of reasons.
What is critical here is for you to view this in totally self-centered and self-serving terms. Once you learn Oracle your employability goes up as does your potential income. Most of my students, getting into industrial strength databases for the first time, find their income doubling or tripling within one year if they can find a job in this marketplace. Likely it also helps delay the onset of Alzheimer's. ;-)
