I beg to differ with your last paragraph.
I've been hired quite a few times because no one liked to do the DBA job.
And, invariably, I ran into big messes always.
Then you have to tell them they have always done everything wrong. So what
will happen do you think?
*They* are the self-appointed *experts* and *you* are a contractor they can
get rid of easily: only one phone call will suffice.
