Reminds me.. There was a guy at UCI that wasa retiree who went back to school to do a PhD... So it can't be that unbearable, he seemed to be having a great time.

I'd do it for the love of it. I think at graduation I was already making more than the PhDs! At least I heard from some people who went to Microsoft Research and they don't pay too excitingly well (at least not fresh PhDs from UCI!).
