There are competitive possibilities, but afaik none from Oracle itself.

I get the feeling Oracle is trying to drag customers into the future, whether we want to come or not.
Never the less, I find that most arguments to retain client/server come from a developers mindset and not from an 'operations and maintenance cost' mindset. In my personal evaluations, I've have consistently found c/s to be much more expensive over a 3-5 year maintenance window, and thus I personally agree with them.
I do understand your position - in the short term it can be traumatic and initially expensive to switch. However, Oracle did give us several years and several versions to change. Many of us simply did not want to listen. Received on Fri Apr 04 2003 - 19:41:57 CEST
