Theroretically possible. Some considerations before you go down this path:

  • Oracle has made some fixes in the version of Apache they provide. While the fixes may be propogated through apache.org to newer versions, this is not guaranteed.
  • Oracle will only support the Apache that they provide. If you do happen to get it working in your environment, you have the pleasure of being your own support group.
  • Some of the other parts of the 9iAS might be required for some operations. SSL and LDAP come to mind as possibilities (not sure though).
  • 9iAS can co-exist with other App Servers & HTTP servers in the same network, although they might not co-exist on the same box. Consider using it, if nothing else for the sake of getting support.
  • Since you pay for the 9iAS to get 9i Forms, why don't you consider looking at the other capabilities. I know a lot of organizations who have looked for a Workflow and/or Queue system (or LDAP, J2EE server, web cache, etc. ) without realizing these are available in the 9i tech stack. It could save money.
