No I liken concluding that something must have value because lots of people buy it to jumping off a bridge. Let me quote the phrase to which I was responding:

"they still make a lot of money selling them, so there must be something to them"

That statement to me could be rewritten as:

"Their marketing campaign is convincing so the product must be good."

In this case I agree that their products are pretty decent ... I was just questioning the logic of the above quoted statement.
