I hope you don't expect anyone at a usenet group to speak for why Oracle does anything.
We can address what is ... not necessary why it is when the decision is one related to marketing.
But likely you have Windows and had you read the installation instructions before starting the installation you would have known that one or two simple mouse clicks would have allowed you to reselect your original ORACLE home ... nothing got fragged ... you just didn't read and follow the instructions.
