Ive managed it after applying 5 patches and discovering bugs in the Oracle supplied shell scripts.

Here are some of the major probs I cam up against....

To get discoverer to install OK in the first place you need to turn your machine colour settings down I found that 8bit crappy-colour got me through!
You need to then patch discoverer upto v 4.1.44.06.00 for Linux 7.1 that is. You can get this from the oracle Metalink site. Also beware that the dicoverer locator software/server thingy looks for the first occurance of an IP number in your etc/hosts file, this may be the loopback number on your machine, it was on mine and causes discoverer to error out. Make the real machine IP the first entry in fron of the loopback one...yes honestly how cr*p is thet, eh??!!!!

Keep your java console with 'show console' option selected when trying to connect over the web, it helps when trying to locate problems.

Getting discoverer to work on Linux is a pure nightmare so good luck...you'll need it!! Received on Tue Nov 05 2002 - 16:47:31 CET
