I have a client who is about to go live with Oracle 8.1.7 Enterprise Edition on W2K and so far we have not discovered any problems.
If you are looking to run forms and reports on the client, I am reasonable certain this will not work on XP. I am sure someone on this newsgroup will correct me if I am wrong. This is assumming that you are looking at a client-server setup. If you just need to have a basic oracle client installed to achieve connectivity say to ODBC then I would go for the oracle 9i client as this should install without problems.
Again, if you have a forms based application running on the client then an option would be for you to run it through a browser. This might open up a few more challenges but it is a way of getting round any XP specific problems you might otherwise face.
