config: 9ias, portal 3.0.9, nt(client)/2000(server) problem: how to construct the where clause, when creating a dynamic lov.

config: 9ias, portal 3.0.9, nt(client)/2000(server) problem: how to construct the where clause, when creating a dynamic lov.
I'm aware that I need to use concatenate,
as for example 'select a||b||c||, a'
but how to include for example 'distinct' and/or
hints ?
as in 'select /*+ <a hint> */ distinct <something>'
haven't been able to find anything about the above in the docs.
