None of the Oracle 8i database products are certified for Windows XP. Some people have gotten it to work but there are no guarantees, plus if there is a problem Oracle will not help you out. Their newest version 9i is compatible with XP though. To get around this problem myself I just went ahead and dual booted my PC so that I can use 8i in a Windows 2k environment because I have to also use Deisgner and Developer 6i. If you want to try to install 8i on XP you can find the tips on getting it to work on www.oracle.com/forums do a search on windows xp.
