forms6i: image item

Hello,
I want to store an image with forms6i in an oracle8i-lob. But with an normal image item it is only possible to store it in the image-format choosen at design time and not in its original format. And I have not found any possibility to change the image-format-property at runtime.
Is there any other possibility to store images with forms6i (and perhaps displaying later)?
