Import of Designer 2.6 repository export fails!

From a Designer 6i repository, I made an export using the Repository Administration Utility, under Oracle 8.1.6.3. This database, and subsequently the Designer Repository have since been retired with the instance being upgraded to 8.1.7 and Designer upgraded to 6i Release 2.

I wish to import the 'old' repository into this new instance of Oracle Designer. However, the process hangs in the midst of importing the many views used in the repository, the Oracle process grabs 99% of the CPU and all remaining memory and the import progresses no further. The entire process must then be aborted, with the import only partially finished. The repository is left in an inconsistent state so as not be in the least bit useful.

Would anyone like to suggest a means of accomplishing the import of the older Designer repository into the new instance?
