Discoverer 3.1 is too slow

Hi
I use Oracle Discoverer 3.1.38 to build querys on my Oracle 8.0.6 database. The server side part of the query runs for 30s and returns 400 000 records. But on client side Discoverer needs 10 - 30 miunutes to build a cross table.
What can I do to reduce the query time?
Is there any possibility to build and sort the cross table on the server?
