UTL_FILE and mapped drives

[Quoted] [Quoted] I've set up an extensive package under Ora 8i on NT to generate a number of [Quoted] text files using UTL_FILE.. UTL_FILE behaves OK for all local destination directories included in a UTL_FILE_DIR specification in INIT.ORA.

BUT it will not work with drives mapped to other nodes in the network. Tried both NT and AS/400 destinations, write premissions are fine and I can copy files outside of UTL_FILE, but any attempt to FOPEN raises an unhandled internal exception in UTL_FILE

Tried UTL_FILE_DIR = * (which should make everything available - can then write to local drives, but still not to a mapped drive)

Any ideas or is simply not possible for some reason????
