Oracle Reports Server: is it that good?

I am trying to evaluate the reports server
product in the HP-UX environment. I am familiar
with all of the major benefits (load balancing,
clustering, caching), but not convinced that it
really does that much in a small volume request
environment (couldn't utilize clustering). I am
trying to define the gap between going with
report server or developing our own load
balancing and serving mechanisms. Essentially
report server just makes rwrun60 calls in the
background, so why couldn't we make rwrun60 calls
from our web pages? Yes, report server already
has the report engine loaded into memory which
may provide a minor performance improvement, but
what can report server do that we could do
ourselves by just explictly calling rwrun60?
Anyone out there using it or got any input?
Tia,
Jason
