What about your local bookshop?

If everybody uses www. for all their shopping - big trouble. You run out of coffee, it will be delivered tomorrow, why - the local shop aint their anymore.

Your local bookshop can get by tomorrow anyway! I ordered PLSQL last week, it was delivered to the shop the same day!

What happens if www.amazon deliver and your not in? Do yo get a virtual e-mail, a low-tech card through the door, or a wet book waiting on your doorstep?
