   In versions of Oracle 8 prior to 8.1.6 you should install Oracle 8.x, Enterprise Manager 2.x and Designer 6.x in separate Oracle homes. You can run them on the same machine. Designer wants to be placed in the "default" Oracle home, usually orant. If you used this home for Oracle or for OEM then you're out of luck. If you named your Oracle homes for Oracle and for OEM something different from the default (always a good idea) then just let Designer use the default.

   Each of the three products will have its own tnsnames.ora etc. files so you'll have to place entries in all of them. And when you're done check you path to make sure it's not grown too long.
