Reports Background Engine

I have a form that can call a number of different reports, one at a time. The problem I am having is that when I print more than one report, the first one prints fine, but the subsequent ones start having larger and larger left margins. I thought it might be the report background engine, so we manually closed it between each report, and the reports print fine. I am trying to find out how to automattically close the background engine after each report is closed (the reports are being called to the previewer). I am using forms 6.0 and reports 6.0. I found two possible solutions, but neither of them worked (putting a parameter for oracle_shutdown in the parameter list w/ a value of YES, and putting a parameter for background in the parameter list w/ a value of NO).

Any ideas? I'm running out of places to look. Thank you so much for any help you can provide me with :)
