Sounds like you may need the old $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora as opposed to $ORACLE_HOME/net80/admin. Or could be you need to user fully qualified SID names in your connect strings i.e. ORCL.WORLD rather than ORCL. Regards,
