Would anyone care to comment on their experience with the various design tools available (including third party offerings) for modeling database systems and applications. I'm doing a survey of existing solutions in order to determine best fit for our needs.

I'm familiar with Oracle Designer. It interfaces well with Oracle (particularly the reverse engineering functionality), but I find many features klunky or missing entirely, while significant components such as the app generation are more than we need. I'd also like to know if products with better UML & Java suppport are available.
Any helpful opinions and advice would be appreciated.
