DB Field Lengths in PRO*C

I thought there was a way to define host variables that correspond to database fields without knowing the length of the field. I thought this is why we log on when using pro*c. For example, something like:

char myvar[%mytable:myfield:length]; I used to use pro*c a long time ago, back when this was a new feature, but I can't find it in the documentation. I appreciate any insight into this.
