I wish I could say that I had the same success as you did with running OAS 4.0.8 and Oracle 8.0.5 together (WINNT 4.0 and SP5). Unfortunately, mine is a production environment so this workaround is a necessity for me and did solve the issue. OAS 4.0.8 and Oracle 8.0.5 are installed in separate ORACLE_HOME's. The Oracle support person I've been working with has been able to recreate the error numerous times. For clarification the error I was getting (before the workaround) is as follows:

(at the dos prompt which was left open as the application is accessed) error panic YS:error illegal in 'NEW' at line 239 of .\wrkctx.c abnormal program termination

This file does not exist in the actual release of OAS 4.0.8.1 but rather was a file used during the development of the product.
