Can anybody help me? I have difficulties with window sizes on Win98 notebook.

We have running a forms application with window sizes defined in centimeters,
for example: width=10 centimeters, height=9 centimeters

According to Oracle documentation these are relative values, that means on a 21" screen the single windows are greater than on a 17" screen (with the same resolution of 1024x768 and the same big character size). This behaviour we can see at our different Win NT workstations.

But now we have a notebook with 14" TFT and Windows98. Here the sizes are not relative but absolute! The window sizes are exactly the same as defined (for example 10x9 centimeters).

Can anyone tell me
- what is the reason for this different behaviour?

  • how can we change the display on Win98 notebook to have the same behaviour as on our WinNT stations without changing all the forms?

From Dev2000 Online Manual for Windows:
Size is determined by screen resolution, not by absolute measurement. For example, widgets developed on a 96 dots per inch (dpi) 17-inch monitor appear smaller than the same widgets displayed on a 20-inch 96 dpi monitor, even though the measurement systems appear to be the same. In other words, an inch is not always an inch on Windows.

Thanks in advance
Peter
