Oracle 8.0.5 vs. Oracle 7.x.x

Hello,
i'm currently developing a Java-Applet with a JDBC - Connect (Thin Driver) to a Linux based Oralce 8.0.5 System in my Testenvironment. This works fine for the moment.
The Problem is, that this Applet should finally work on AIX based Oracle 7.3.2 (i think ?, maybe older) Server.
So what are the main differnces between the two Oracle Versions in the eyes of a Java Developer ?
What things must be changed to get that Applet to work ? Are there any Problems know ?
