SQL loader, skipping records

Hi
I need to read a file with SQL loader. Then file is variable length, records is delimited by a "|", but i dont need all the data only some of the fields from the file .. is there a possiblity to skip these or can you fake a dummy variable where you put all (i tried putting all data into the same logical field .. but this didnt work - it was not allowed)
anybody got an idea ?!?!
