Transparent gateway to DB2/AS400

We want to implement the transparent gateway for DB2/AS400. Since the gateway lives on the AS400, I am wondering what kind of disk requirements, RAM used, CPU taxation, the gateway has. Also, I understand that it uses SQL Net to communicate between the gateway and Oracle, but what does the gateway use to talk to the DB2 database? I am assuming it isn't ODBC, some native protocol or something.
