Ronda,

I am doing a similar thing. I have been a PICK DBA for many years. Based on assurances from three reputable recruiters in my region, I have taken an Oracle8 course. Now contrary to their assurances, I find that I will have a near impossible chance of securing an Oracle programming position. I need to be a [Quoted] developer before I can again be a DBA in Oracle. My total of eight recruiters in ten days, confirms that while I have extensive experience in a legacy RDMS, it doesn't help in the Oracle community.

You might also visit comp.databases.oracle.marketplace for job opportunities.
