[Quoted] How difficult will it be to migrate from MS Access97 to Oracle?
We're using a homebuilt MS Access97 database for customer information, order entry, equipment history, parts manufacturing information, price lists, quotations, purchasing and inventory. We have about 25 users and are about to outgrow our Novell 3.12 server. This Access database is very slow for several applications (a multilevel BOM can take up to 5 minutes on some PC's!)
Should I believe what Microsoft marketing when they try so hard to tell us that it's an easy upgrade to their SQL Server, just run their Access migration tool and your up and running on a much faster system?
I'm not keen on switching to an NT server (the one I support for our firewall has caused me nothing but problems), so I'd like to stick with Novell. My Novell support guys tell me that Orcale is the natural choice if I stay with Novell for my next server.
Are there migration tools available for upgrading from MS Access to Oracle?
Are Oracle and MS SQL server similiar in the level of programming expertise that's required?
Will maintaining an Oracle or MS SQL Server become a full-time job (I average about 2-4 hrs/week on maintaining Access)? Received on Sat Feb 06 1999 - 21:33:29 CET
