Our shop recently purchased Crystal Reports for AS/400 and Oracle queries.
While it is a very good tool. I do have some pet peeves about the Query Designer and Info Views. Query designer allows you to create queries ahead of time for the business users. Problem is they don't give you a lot of room to adequately see what you are creating when you create table joins (similar to Access).
Info Views allows you to define a meta layer with "english" like names for your users to access rather than going against the database directly. Beware, if important to you, you will not be able to generate anytype of report/glossary of the meta layers that you define.
If you have the vendor in for a demo, ask them to demonstrate against an Oracle database or your AS/400 in house. Do not let them just demo with MS-Access.
I've also used Business Objects, strictly with Oracle. I thought this tool was very nicely designed.
