SQL LOADER and binary data

Help! I'm trying to load a fixed record length flat file into Oracle using SQL Loader, but the file contains binary as well as text data. I've set up the control file so that it will correctly read the binary data, but how do I tell SQL Loader what the record length is? Without a record length, it won't work. I'm on a Unix System. Thanks for any help!
