Forms 5.0 and FRM-15004: Error while parsing join condition

I have a form that was created in Forms 4.5 and brought into Forms 5.0.6.8.0. The form has one block that is a master block to 8 detail blocks. On one of the detail blocks, I changed the name of the join condition item. Then, when I tried to modify the corresponding master-detail relation to use the new item name, I received FRM-15004: "Error while parsing join condition."

For the life of me, I cannot successfully re-create the master detail relation. The other 7 relations work fine. I can create a relation between the same master block and a different detail block, and I can create a relation using a different master block with this detail block. But I cannot create one between this particular master block and detail block. I even deleted the detail block completely and then re-created it, but it still will not let me create a master-detail relation.

I have checked all known causes of FRM-15004: 1. I am specifying the join condition in the format master_block.item_name = detail_block.item_name, with no colons preceding the block names; 2. The items exist in both blocks and are of the same datatype and length; 3. I am using the block names, not the table names.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
