Number Format

When using SQL*PLUS and spooling to create an ASCII file, I'm formatting the numbers to come in right justified (e.g. 999.9) rather than converting to [Quoted] [Quoted] character which would come in left justified. However, the number of columns is always one more than I request. I assume this may have to do with reserving one space for a + or - sign. Any way to get exactly the number of columns I request?
