Hi!
for offline backups we set up AT batch jobs scheduled to run daily .We scheduled a job to run nornmal tape backup of the database directory (dat01.ora and index01.ora) Before this we also ran a job to do the database export (another AT job). You can schedule AT jobs to run daily or weekly and we found them good for offline backups.
Hope this helps.
