Hi, thanks for the reply.
Yes, the programs in question do correctly search SHLIB_PATH for the shared libraries; in fact we linked using -Wl,+s,-Bimmediate to force the linker to check for any unresolved references at load time. Using the debugger, we were able to see that the core-dump was actually being produced by a SIGSEGV somewhere.
To cut a long story short we ended up calling ORACLE technical support, downloaded patches 382702 and 407029, rebuilt libclntsh.sl and everything has worked since.
Anyone out there with nasty core dumping libclntsh.sl applications with ORACLE 7.3.2, check out those patches (407029 in particular)!
