Position Description: Progress, Oracle and/or MS SQL DBA Location: Dallas, TX

This company is preparing to move to an enterprise solution (SAP, Peoplesoft, etc.) and is looking to add to it's DBA staff. This is an excellent opportunity to work for a great company (very low turnover) that realizes the value of keeping current with technology.

Requirements:
- 3+ years experience performing Database Administration or Technical Consulting in the Relational Database Arena - 2+ years experience with one or more of the following products/disciplines:

  • System and/or data management on UNIX and/or NT
  • Database management of Progress, MS SQL Server and/or Oracle (Knowledge of other databases is a plus)
  • Capacity Planning
  • Technology Evaluations and Recommendations - Excellent written and verbal presentation skills Excellent people skills - Excellent problem solving skills - Must be a self-starter with the ability interact with a variety of people, manage one's priorities and obtain timely goals within a fast pace environment.

Duties:
Database Administration - Psychical

  • Installing and upgrading of the database Server and application tools
  • Allocating system storage and planning future storage requirement for the database system
  • Creating primary database storage structures once application developers have design an application
  • Creating primary objects (tables, views, indexes) once application developers have designed an application
  • Modifying the database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers
  • Enrolling users and maintaining system security
  • Ensuring compliance with database and tool manufacture's license agreements
  • Controlling and monitoring user access to the database
  • Planning for backup and recovery of database information
  • Maintaining archived data on storage media
  • Backing up and restoring the database
  • Contacting database and tool manufacture's for technical support

Business & Data Modeling

  • Contribute to the coordination of the design and improvement of the company's data environment
  • Contribute to the coordination of the documentation and cataloging of the Business process models
  • Lead the documentation and cataloging of IS data models

Technical Consulting

  • Aid in the selection, implementation, adherence and improvement of design & programming methodologies
  • Aid in the selection, implementation, adherence and improvement of design & programming tools
  • Participate in multi-departmental projects on behalf of the company's business needs
  • Research new ways to leverage IS resources for the benefit of the company

Production Control

  • Aid in the monitoring, documentation and control of changes to the internal production environment
  • Aid in the monitoring, documentation and control of changes to the external distribution environment
