Best to make a new connection under the same userid for each thread, then you do not need to worry about serializing anything. When all the threads share the connection, you have to treat this like you would any other shared resource, (i.e. a file handle for example), and be certain that the threads will not collide using it. Orale 7.3 and later is thread safe and should prevent you from colliding, but you will lose the performance benefits of multithreading if the threads are being serialized on you.
