Problem writing a file

Hello,
I have a problem writing an an Oracle 8.0.4.0.0 datafile onto hard disk
or cd-rom. Using the command 'alter database rename file ... to ...' I
get an error message saying that Oracle can't find the file. Writing the
file onto a floppy disk is no problem at all.
Can you help me with a solution to that problem?
