Normally this is defined with SQL Net Easy Configuration
(Start/Programs/Oracle for WinNTunder Windows or somewhere in the network
folder in the ORACLE-folder under
MacOS or UNIX). There you can define a DB-alias and the connect path
(IP-Number and
ORACLE-Instance; you get these values from your DB-severs). Enter no value
for database name
if you connect local (Tool and DB-engine on the same computer).

Normally this is automatically made by ORACLE. The installer suggestes a
directory (disk having
most available space; for example D:\ORANT under WinNT) Make sure to add the
directory to the path.
