[Quoted] We have an application that most users will be using. However, a select few will need to test the on-going modifications we make prior to us releasing the changes to the masses.
When we ran the application as a server-based scheme with Forms 3.0 in character mode on VMS terminals, it was easy -- the test users could have one terminal session that pointed to the production database and forms and another terminal session running simultaneously that pointed to the test database and forms. They could flip between the two for comparison.
We are now moving to a client/server scheme, where the users will be running GUI Forms 4.5 on their Windows 95 machines. It is my impression that the Windows 95 registry has a specific path entry to tell Forms where to look for files. When users are running against production, the path will have to point to the where production forms reside. Can we dynamically change the registry so that when a user wants to access the test version, the path will be changed? Is it possible for a user to have the application running twice - one pointing to production and the other pointing to test?
I'm fairly new the the registry concept, so any help you can give is greatly appreciated.
