Where to store executables?

My company is just starting devlopment using the Oracle toolset (Des2k, Dev2k, Oracle RDBMS). We are just getting into how the application should be partitioned. This is a very simple application. ie. simple table maintenance, query capabilities - no major processing.
We have the Oracle Database server on HP-Unix box. We have both a Novell and NT server. Our original plan was to store all of the executables on the Novell file server (Oracle run time and FMX files).
Is this reasonable? We have noticed that loading Icon bit maps is very time consuming across the network so we are considering moving these to the client machine as well as possibly Oracle runtime.
Is NT a better place to store than Novell (someone told me it will do a better job of managing disk access)
Overall, what are people doing in terms of storing applications on LAN servers as opposed to client machines?
Any and all comments are appreceiated.
Thanks
