The only safe format mask we have found is 'fmfxMM/DD/RRRR'. The user must still enter the '/'s, but at least an entry of 1/1/1 will go to 01/01/2001 and 1/1/99 will go to 01/01/1999. Before we started using this, we were getting some dates much nearer the year 0000!
