Oracle Gives Sedona The Cold Shoulder
By Shawn Willett
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. -- While Oracle8 appears on track to ship this month, Oracle's Sedona product appears lost in the woods, according to Oracle chairman and CEO Larry Ellison. Sedona is Oracle's object-oriented application development environment that was supposed to work in tandem with Oracle8.
"Sedona has been postponed indefinitely. We were about to release a product that our application development team was not engaged in. I will not release an application tool that does not have the support of our own application development team," Ellison said during an Oracle 8 press event.
Ellison said Oracle has no ship date for Sedona, which was slated until recently to ship in July. "My best guess is it will ship in a year," Ellison said. However, Ellison added that it will not ship at all if it does not meet Oracle's internal requirements.
Ellison said one of the problems with Sedona was that it competed with Oracle's own Developer/2000. Sedona also did not support Java, he noted.
